I was planning to spend a week with family way down in my hometown of Pensacola, Florida. I just needed to figure out how to get there. I could fly, drive, or ride. Guess which one I chose.
Yup, I rode the SV650 down to Florida and back. Right around a 1500 mile round trip. Definitely the longest motorcycle trip I’ve ever taken.
I could have flown but flying sucks and the flights to Pensacola were stupid expensive. I also could have driven, but a 12 hour drive in the MR2 in a fixed back racing seat and with no AC would be rather unpleasent.
I split the ride up over two days and spent the night in Birmingham, Alabama at a friends place.
Stopped for brunch on the way down at Waffle House in the middle of nowhere kentucky.
Pit stop for lunch, CMA Music Fest, and shennanigans in Nashville, Tenneessee.
Eventually made it Florida and spent the week fishing and diving and drinking.

On a rainy day we went to the Naval Aviation Museam on Pensacola N.A.S.

The return trip was pretty uneventful except with one seriously wild thunderstorm that hit when I was about 20 miles out of Birmingham. I had to take cover for a while not because I was afraid of getting wet, but because the winds and lightning were too severe and cars were crashing all over the place.
aaaaaand now I’m back at work and already thinking about the next trip. Where to? Who knows

Cool story bro. But in a not sarcastic way.

Nice trip! I can vouch for Birmingham over the past couple weeks — weird weather out of nowhere, and that makes hilly interstate driving pretty sketchy in a car, to say nothing of a bike. I love Pensacola, cool small city. Whenever we’re down at the beach, I try to hit the Naval Air Museum, Fort Barrancas, the historic district, etc.
